Footpaths

The spectacular South West Coast Path runs through Zennor. There are many inland paths that link to it, which create excellent circular walks. One of these, and possibly the oldest path in Zennor, is part of the Church or Field Path which links settlements from St Ives to St Just in an almost straight line. It is noted for its fine granite stiles, many of which are listed as ancient monuments. At intervals the stiles were used as resting places by those carrying the deceased to church, thus giving the path its other name - the Coffin Path.

Thanks to the hard work of the Parish Council's Footpath's Officer our footpaths are well looked after and accessible year-round.

The Footpaths Officer acts for the Parish Council in administering the Local Maintenance Partnership, whereby funds from the County Council and the Parish Precept are provided to maintain definitive footpaths according to an agreed schedule. Cutting the paths usually commences in late June to allow birds to nest and spring flowers to set seed and continues throughout the growing season as necessary. Our contractor uses only hand tools. In Zennor some of the footpaths are on National Trust property and are therefore maintained by the Trust.
